Rays 3, Tigers 0: Matt Joyce’s sacrifice fly snapped a scoreless tie while Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings each added RBIs as visiting Tampa Bay scored three times in the ninth inning to beat Detroit.

Sam Fuld bunted for a hit to lead off the ninth, moved to third on Ben Zobrist’s single and scored when Joyce lifted a fly ball to center field. Longoria singled in Zobrist and scored on Jennings’ triple before Fernando Rodney worked around a hit and walk to secure his 12th save in the ninth.

Tampa Bay starter Alex Cobb gave up five hits over 7 2/3 innings and Joel Peralta (1-2) got one big out for the victory as the Rays earned their sixth shutout. Detroit starter Doug Fister (5-3) allowed three runs and seven hits in 8 1/3 innings.

Cobb struck out Prince Fielder with two on and two out to end a threat in the sixth and whiffed Omar Infante with two outs in the seventh after Alex Avila (two hits) doubled. The Tigers put two on with two out again in the eighth before Peralta came on to strike out Fielder.

The Rays put runners on the corners with one out in the third inning before Fuld’s well-struck grounder turned into a rare 3-2-2 double play. Avila, the Tigers’ catcher, took Fielder’s throw at the plate and later tagged Jose Lobaton and Yunel Escobar in succession near the third base bag.
