Rays 9, Indians 2: James Loney belted a pair of homers and knocked in three as visiting Tampa Bay extended its win streak to six after three rain delays caused the game to end at nearly 3 a.m.
Matt Joyce added a two-run homer while Yunel Escobar and Ben Zobrist each collected two hits and an RBI for the Rays, who scored five times in the third after 4 hours 49 minutes of delays. Jamey Wright (1-1) allowed two unearned runs and one walk over three-plus innings as four Rays pitchers combined on one-hitter.
Ryan Raburn had an RBI double for the Indians, who have dropped three of four to Tampa Bay this season. Reliever Scott Barnes (0-1) allowed five runs on four hits in one inning to take the loss - his first career decision.
Barnes allowed an infield hit to Escobar before Joyce hammered his two-run shot to right field with two outs. Kelly Johnson followed with a walk and scored on Evan Longoria’s double before Loney made it 5-0 with another two-run blast to right field.
The Indians pulled within 5-2 in the fifth on a Yan Gomes sacrifice fly and Raburn’s two-out, RBI double off the right-field wall. Josh Lueke pitched two scoreless innings while Cesar Ramos worked three hitless frames for his first career save for the Rays.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tampa Bay starter Matt Moore went only one inning, retiring all three batters, before the third rain delay and did not return. … Cleveland starter Corey Kluber struck out three and did not allow a hit in two innings. … Rays RHP Alex Colome, who won his major-league debut Thursday, was optioned to Triple-A Durham and LHP Jeff Beliveau was recalled.
