Cubs 8, Mets 2: Scott Feldman pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings and helped himself with a two-run double as Chicago evened the series with visiting New York.
Anthony Rizzo and Nate Schierholtz each added a solo homer while Luis Valbuena and Welington Castillo plated runs during a four-run fourth for the Cubs. Feldman (4-3) scattered seven hits and struck out six to win his fourth straight decision.
Rick Ankiel hit a two-run homer in the ninth for the Mets, who saw starter Jeremy Hefner (0-5) fail to reach the fifth inning. The right-hander cruised through the first three frames scoreless before allowing Chicago to bat around in the fourth.
Rizzo started the rally with a leadoff single and Hefner loaded the bases by hitting a batter and yielding another single before Valbuena lifted a sacrifice fly to right. Castillo followed with an RBI single and Darwin Barney flied out in front of Feldman, who sent a double into the gap in right-center to cap the uprising.
Rizzo took Robert Carson out to right in the fifth and Schierholtz’s blast started a three-run burst in the eighth. David DeJesus completed the scoring when his two-run single to shallow right dropped right over second baseman Daniel Murphy’s glove.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Mets SS Ruben Tejada made a pair of sparkling defensive plays, leaping to snag a line drive in the first inning and diving to his right to start a double play in the eighth. … Chicago RHP Matt Garza (strained lat) is set to make his season debut on Tuesday. Carlos Villanueva is expected to shift to the bullpen to make room in the rotation. … Carson has yielded seven home runs in 11 total innings over eight appearances for New York.
