Braves 11, Rockies 2: Justin Upton homered twice and drove in five runs, and Julio Teheran tied a career high with 11 strikeouts as host Atlanta won its seventh straight game.
The National League East-leading Braves extended their advantage over second-place Washington to 11 ½ games. Teheran (8-5) struck out the side three times, allowing one run on five hits in five innings as Atlanta swept the four-game series from Colorado, outscoring the Rockies 40-13.
Upton lofted a two-run homer into the front row of the center-field seats in the first off Colorado starter Chad Bettis (0-1) and added a three-run shot to left-center in the eighth. The Rockies have lost eight of their past 11.
Colorado pulled within 2-1 in the second on Corey Dickerson’s sacrifice fly, but Teheran’s RBI double in the bottom of the frame pushed the lead to 3-1. Teheran’s second hit, a fourth-inning single, preceded Jason Heyward’s homer to right, and the Braves blew it open with a five-run eighth.
Atlanta third baseman Chris Johnson, who leads the NL in hitting at .346, went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Colorado’s DJ LeMahieu finished 3-for-4.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado SS Troy Tulowitzki was ejected by home plate umpire Marvin Hudson for arguing balls and strikes in the second. … Atlanta posted its first perfect homestand of seven or more games since April 2000. … Bettis surrendered five runs on six hits in five innings in his major-league debut.
