Cardinals 10, Pirates 7:
David Freese hit a three-run homer and Adam Wainwright won his first game since 2010 to lead host St. Louis.

Matt Holliday and Rafael Furcal also homered as the Cardinals won for the fourth time in five games.

Wainwright (1-3) gave up four runs and five hits in seven innings for his first victory in five starts this season. Wainwright missed last season after Tommy John elbow surgery and won his first game since beating the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 24, 2010.

Jason Motte struck out two in the ninth for his fourth save in five opportunities.

The contest was tied 2-2 in the fifth when Holliday singled and Carlos Beltran walked before Freese hit his blast to right-center field off Pirates starter Charlie Morton (1-2). Allen Craig added a run-scoring single later in the inning.

Holliday homered in the sixth to make it 7-2. Furcal hit a two-run blast in the seventh to boost the lead to 10-4 but the Pirates tallied three times in the eighth on a two-run single by Garrett Jones and a run-scoring single by Pedro Alvarez.

Alvarez and Jose Tabata each hit two-run homers for the Pirates. Tabata homered in the third and Alvarez went deep in the seventh.

Holliday, who had three hits, also delivered a run-scoring single in the first for St. Louis.

Morton allowed six runs (five earned) and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: St. Louis postseason hero Allen Craig (knee) played for the first time this season and went 2-for-4. … Pittsburgh’s Neil Walker went 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. … The Cardinals announced they will retire the uniform No. 10 worn by former manager Tony La Russa on May 11. … The Pirates committed four errors.
