Diamondbacks 8, Cubs 3: Justin Upton and Cody Ransom homered as host Arizona jumped back above .500 and handed Chicago a sixth straight setback.

A.J. Pollock singled in a run and Aaron Hill added an RBI double for the Diamondbacks, who were officially eliminated from postseason contention earlier in the night when the St. Louis Cardinals posted a 12-2 victory over Washington.

Dave Sappelt hit a two-run homer and Starlin Castro doubled in a run for the Cubs, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 games. Chicago has allowed at least five runs in each of the last six contests.

Arizona attacked the Cubs' pitching staff for single runs in the first and fourth innings before taking the lead for good with a three-run fifth. Chicago left-hander Travis Wood (6-13) walked the leadoff batter but retired the next two before Hill sent a tie-breaking RBI double to the gap in left-center. Upton followed and belted a 1-1 breaking ball into the stands in left for his 16th homer.

Ian Kennedy (15-11) walked six batters in 5 2/3 innings but limited the damage to three runs and four hits while striking out five. The Diamondbacks put it away with three runs in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Wood was charged with five runs on five hits in five innings, snapping a string of seven straight starts in which he had surrendered three earned runs or less. … Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt was scratched from the starting lineup with a sore back. Mike Jacobs started in his place and went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks. … Cubs 2B Darwin Barney remained tied with Placido Polanco for the record with 141 consecutive errorless games at second. Barney was charged with an error in the eighth inning on Friday.
