Diamondbacks 10, Cubs 5: Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with a home run and hit a triple during a six-run fourth inning as Arizona coasted past visiting Chicago.

The Diamondbacks busted the game open with six runs in the fourth against Paul Maholm, who had homered to give himself a 2-1 lead in the top of the inning. Ryan Roberts scored the tying run on a one-out error by Cubs third baseman Luis Valbuena, and Justin Upton followed with an RBI single to give Arizona the lead for good. Jason Kubel had a two-run single and Goldschmidt added an RBI triple, coming home on a Miguel Montero single that knocked Maholm from the game.

The Cubs clawed back with three runs in the fifth. Steve Clevenger doubled in a pair of runs before coming home on a single by Jeff Baker as Chicago pulled within 7-5.

Goldschmidt added a solo home run in the sixth inning for Arizona. Aaron Hill and Montero had run-scoring base hits in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

Craig Breslow (2-0) got the victory in relief, retiring the final two batters of the fifth inning and pitching a scoreless sixth.

Neither starting pitcher made it out of the fifth inning. Maholm (4-6) was tagged for nine hits and six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings, walking three, while Arizona’s Ian Kennedy gave up five runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
