Twins 6, Rangers 5: Ben Revere had four hits and scored three runs while Cole De Vries pitched five solid innings as visiting Minnesota averted a four-game sweep.
Denard Span added two hits and scored twice as the Twins snapped a five-game losing streak and won for only the third time in 17 contests.
Josh Hamilton recorded four RBIs with a two-run homer and a two-run double for Texas, which had its four-game winning streak halted in a contest that featured an 86-minute rain delay in the opening inning.
Glen Perkins pitched a flawless ninth for his seventh save as Minnesota beat the Rangers for just the second time in 10 meetings this season. Texas’ lead in the American League West slipped to 5 1/2 games over idle Oakland.
The Twins had a 6-2 lead entering the bottom the sixth when De Vries (3-5) was replaced by Jeff Gray despite allowing just two runs - one earned - and three hits. He struck out five without a walk.
The move backfired as Hamilton hit a two-run homer and Nelson Cruz blasted a solo shot to get Texas within one. Hamilton’s blast was his 35th of the season, the most by a Rangers player since 2005 when Mark Teixeira hit 43 homers and Alfonso Soriano bashed 36.
The Twins took a 3-2 lead in the third on Justin Morneau’s sacrifice fly and added two fifth-inning runs on singles by Joe Mauer and Trevor Plouffe.
Revere drilled a run-scoring triple in the sixth to finish the afternoon of Texas starter Scott Feldman (6-10), who gave up six runs - five earned - and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Minnesota's Josh Willingham has 92 RBIs, six short of his career high set last season with the Oakland Athletics. … Rangers INF Michael Young missed his third straight game while on paternity leave and is expected back for Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. … Mauer played first base Sunday and remains tied with Earl Battey (795) for most career games by a Twins catcher. … Texas activated RHP Koji Uehara (rib cage) from the disabled list and optioned RHP Tanner Scheppers to Triple-A Round Rock.
