Phillies 4, Marlins 1: Cole Hamels struck out eight over seven strong innings in his final start of the season and visiting Philadelphia won the rubber game of the series.

Hamels (17-6) improved to 6-0 over his last 10 starts while giving up one run on five hits. He extended his career high in victories to 17 and set a personal best with 216 strikeouts over 215 1/3 innings. Jonathan Papelbon struck out John Buck with two runners on in the ninth for his 38th save.

The Phillies jumped on Marlins starter Nathan Eovaldi (4-13) for three runs in the first on four hits and a walk. Eovaldi settled in after the first and struck out seven over six innings.

Donovan Solano extended his hitting streak to 10 games for Miami, which has dropped 11 of its last 13. The Marlins scored a run in the fourth on Carlos Lee’s RBI single, but they had two runners thrown out at home in the inning and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Philadelphia, which will miss the playoffs for the first time in six years, added an insurance run in the eighth when Domonic Brown’s sacrifice fly scored Chase Utley.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marlins SS Jose Reyes had two hits in three at-bats against Hamels and is 22-for-56 (.393) against the left-hander. …Eovaldi fell to 0-4 in four starts against Philadelphia this season. …Miami has lost seven of its last nine games against the Phillies and dropped the season series with a record of 8-10.
