Marlins 6, Rockies 5: Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run homer - his
sixth in six career games at Coors Field - as visiting Miami scored all its runs in the first two innings and held on for its second straight victory over Colorado.
Stanton became the first visiting player to homer in six straight games
at Coors Field. His 24th homer of the season came on a 1-0 pitch from
Tyler Chatwood and landed on the concourse above the seats in left field - 448 feet from home plate - to make it 4-0 in the first inning.
Jose Reyes drove in three runs for the second straight night, including a
two-run triple in the third inning. His run-scoring single came two
batters before Stanton's blast.
Bryan Petersen had three hits and scored twice while Stanton, Reyes, Gorkys Hernandez and Carlos Lee had two apiece to pace the Marlins' 14-hit attack.
Tyler Colvin had three RBIs for the Rockies, who scored two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth before falling to a major-league worst 25-39 at home.
Nathan Eovaldi (4-8) improved to 3-2 with a 3.75 ERA in five starts with
Miami since being acquired in the Hanley Ramirez trade. He yielded one
run, six hits and walked four in 6 2/3 innings and a career-high 115 pitches Saturday.
Chatwood (3-3), who had won his last two starts, allowed six runs and
nine hits in four innings in his first appearance against the Marlins.
Colorado received an RBI single from Jordan Pacheco in the eighth inning
to close within 6-2 and had runners on second and third with none out.
Heath Bell relieved Chad Gaudin and struck out pinch hitter Ramon
Hernandez before Chris Nelson's sacrifice fly made it 6-3.
Steve Cishek recorded his ninth save of the season - and second in as many nights - after allowing a two-run single to Colvin in the ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Rockies were without All-Star LF Carlos Gonzalez, who
was placed on the bereavement list Saturday after the death of his
grandfather in Venezuela. Gonzalez will be eligible to join the Rockies on Tuesday in New York. ... Stanton
is 13-for-38 with five homers and 10 RBIs in his last 10
games. His Friday homer traveled 474 feet, the longest at Coors Field this season. ... Prior to Saturday, Stanton and
Jeff Kent were the only visiting players to homer in five consecutive
games at Coors Field. ... The Marlins are 6-13 in their last 19 road games. ... Reyes hit a three-run homer in Miami's 6-5 victory Friday. ... Rockies 1B Michael Cuddyer, who was playing his third game since returning from the disabled list, left after the seventh inning when he re-aggravated his oblique injury. He will return to the DL.
