Phillies 3, Marlins 1: Shane Victorino and Ty Wigginton each had a solo home run as host Philadelphia won back-to-back games and took its home-opening series versus Miami.
The Phillies defeated the Marlins for the fourth time in the last five meetings and improved to 9-2 in their last 11 home stands against their National League East rivals.
Victorino opened scoring with a solo shot to left field to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning. Four batters later, John Mayberry Jr. scored Hunter Pence, who doubled off the wall in left, on a single to put Philadelphia ahead 2-0.
Wigginton extended the Phillies’ lead by two runs with a solo blast to left field – his 12th career home run versus the Marlins – in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Joe Blanton (1-1) was solid through seven innings, allowing one run on just three hits while striking out three batters. He was replaced by Chad Qualls, who got out of a jam with two runners on by striking out Giancarlo Stanton to end the eighth.
Omar Infante hit a two-out double and was scored on a blooper to right field from John Buck to trim the lead to one in the top of the fifth inning.
Infante went 2-for-4 and is 9-for-25 with four RBIs and three home runs to start the year.
Mark Buehrle (0-2) retired the first nine batters faced and gave up three runs on eight hits – two home runs – with striking out two over 6 1/3 innings of work.
