Braves 11, Mets 3: Brian McCann homered and finished with four hits and Dan Uggla added three hits as Atlanta won for the sixth time in seven games.
Both McCann and Uggla showed signs of breaking out of long slumps while providing starter Kris Medlen (8-1) with plenty of support. McCann launched a two-run double in a four-run third inning before belting his first homer since July 27 in the fifth en route to finishing 4-for-4. Uggla, who was benched earlier in the week, went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two walks.
Medlen improved to 7-0 since joining the starting rotation. He allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six innings. Medlen’s run of innings without allowing an earned run ended at 40 1/3.
Heavy rains and wind forced a 1-hour, 16-minute delay after the bottom of the sixth.
The Braves scored first as Jose Constanza drove home Uggla on an infield single in the second. After Freddie Freeman singled home Jason Heyward in the third, McCann hit a two-run double to center. Medlen doubled to center later in the inning, scoring McCann and putting Atlanta ahead 5-0.
New York starter Jeremy Hefner (2-6) allowed five runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings.
McCann hit his 19th homer in the fifth, a two-run shot to right off Robert Carson. Eric Hinske hit his second homer of the season in the ninth, a pinch-hit solo shot.
GAME NOTEBOOK: David Wright and Lucas Duda finished with two hits each for New York. ... The Braves have won Medlen’s last 19 starts. … Ronny Cedeno hit a solo homer in the fifth for New York, his fourth homer of the season. … Atlanta SS Andrelton Simmons, sidelined with a broken right pinkie since July 8, will rejoin the team Monday.
