Orioles 5, Mariners 4: Robert Andino belted a home run to left field with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lift visiting Baltimore over Seattle.
Andino’s homer off Charlie Furbush (4-2) came after the Orioles squandered a 4-0 lead. They won for just the second time in eight games.
Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen retired the first 19 batters he faced but received a no-decision due to Pedro Strop’s ineffective relief outing.
Chen struck out nine and was charged with two runs and two hits in 7 1/3 innings. He had a perfect game until Casper Wells lined a 3-2 fastball into the left-field stands with one out in the seventh.
The left-handed Chen was removed after allowing a one-out double in the eighth by Michael Saunders. Strop retired just one batter while allowing three hits and a walk.
Justin Smoak and pinch hitter John Jaso had run-scoring singles to pull Seattle within 4-3 and Kyle Seager drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the contest.
Darren O’Day (5-0) recorded the final out of the eighth and Jim Johnson worked the ninth for his 24th save in 25 opportunities.
Matt Wieters had a two-run single as the Orioles chased All-Star Felix Hernandez with a four-run sixth inning.
Hernandez blanked Baltimore over the first five frames before the Orioles strung together four consecutive singles to start the sixth. A line-drive base hit to center by Chris Davis accounted for the first run and Adam Jones followed suit to make it 2-0.
One out later, Wieters delivered his two-run single to right-center field, knocking Hernandez out of the contest.
Hernandez allowed four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight without a walk.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chen had lost back-to-back starts and gave up nine runs (eight earned) in 11 1/3 innings during the span. … Smoak is just 3-for-34 over his last 10 games. … The Orioles placed 2B Brian Roberts (groin) on the disabled list prior to the game. OF Xavier Avery replaced Roberts on the roster and went 3-for-5. … Saunders went 1-for-3 after missing Seattle’s previous four games with a stomach flu.
