Torii Hunter and Alberto Callaspo belted back-to-back homers to highlight a three-run fifth inning to propel the host Los Angeles Angels to a 4-1 win over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.
With one out in the frame, Hunter belted a solo shot to left-center field. Hunter has driven in eight runs in his past six games.
Callaspo followed with a solo homer and Reggie Willits added an RBI double to help Los Angeles to its third win in four games.
The outburst was more than enough for Los Angeles starter Ervin Santana, who allowed one run in six innings and struck out six to record his second straight victory.
Santana allowed runners to reach second and third with one out in the sixth inning, but struck out Landon Powell and Mark Ellis to end the threat. Jordan Walden pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 10th save of the season.
Santana bested Oakland starter Trevor Cahill, who allowed four runs in six innings to drop his second decision of the year.
