Jordan Martinook scored the go-ahead goal with 3:50 remaining in the third period, and the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.
Martinook had gone 17 games without scoring before breaking a 1-1 tie by beating Martin Jones for his third goal of the season, putting Carolina ahead to stay in a matchup between the first-place and last-place teams in the Metropolitan Division. Steven Lorentz had the game's first goal for Carolina, and Sebastian Aho hit the empty net with 21 seconds remaining for his team-leading 26th goal. The Hurricanes have a 13-game home points streak, the second-longest stretch in team history.
Frederik Andersen made 28 saves for his 30th win of the season. Andersen played for just the second time this month and the first time since March 3.
Jones made 33 saves and Derick Brassard scored for the Flyers, who lost their 11th straight road game (0-9-2).
Lorentz gave Carolina a 1-0 lead when he scored his seventh goal of the season and first in 22 games at 8:34 of the second period. Center Derek Stepan, playing in his 800th NHL game, got the primary assist for his 500th point.
Brassard's 200th NHL goal with 3:10 left in the second period tied the game 1-1. He had a clear path to the puck and knocked in a rebound after Andersen failed to control the puck. The Hurricanes had gone the equivalent of more than two full games, since the second period of their victory against the Seattle Kraken last Sunday -- without allowing a goal.
The Hurricanes went scoreless in the first period for the fifth straight game despite outshooting the Flyers 15-10.
