ST. LOUIS -- Center Paul Stastny scored one goal and assisted on two more in the third period to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 5-2 win Monday night over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Stastny also assisted on a goal in the first period to record his first four-point game in his two years with the Blues.
The win was the fourth in their last five games for the Blues as they handed the Penguins their first regulation loss in five games. Pittsburgh fell to 2-7-1 in the second half of back-to-back games this season.
Stastny set up right winger Troy Brouwer at 2:18 of the third period to snap a 2-2 tie. Brouwer's shot beat backup goalie Jeff Zalkoff, making his first start since Dec. 31, for his ninth goal of the season.
Stastny increased the lead to 4-2 at 11:38 of the period with his fifth goal of the season and second in the last two games on a wrist shot from the top of the circle. He then added an assist on an empty-net goal by defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk in the game's closing seconds.
The Penguins took a 2-1 lead at 15:56 of the second period on center Evgeni Malkin's 20th goal of the season. He was able to get around defenseman Jay Bouwmeester to beat goalie Brian Elliott.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Blues right winger Vladimir Tarasenko returned the favor just 1:18 later, skating around defenseman Ben Lovejoy to score his 25th goal of the season. It was Tarasenko's first goal in six games, his longest drought of the season.
The two teams traded goals in the first period. Pittsburgh goalie Jeff Zalkoff was caught out of the net and gave up a goal to left winger Alexander Steen at 12:00, his first goal in 10 games, but the Penguins got the tying goal on a breakaway from left winger Chris Kunitz at 18:03.
NOTES: The Blues got D Jay Bouwmeester back after he missed four games because of a concussion. The team was without D Robert Bortuzzo with a lower-body injury. D Andre Benoit was recalled from Chicago of the American Hockey League and became the 10th defenseman to play in a game for the Blues this season. ... The Penguins recalled D Derrick Pouliot from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL and he was in the lineup in place of D David Warsofsky, out with a concussion suffered in Sunday's game. ... Monday night's game was the last in the regular season for the Penguins outside the Eastern time zone. ... The Blues begin a four-game trip on Wednesday night at Detroit while the Penguins return home to host the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.
