Marcus Tsohonis scored a career-high 29 points, including the tiebreaking jumper in the lane with 2.4 seconds remaining, as Washington snapped a five-game losing streak with a 65-63 Pacific-12 Conference victory against rival Washington State on Monday night in Pullman, Wash.
Erik Stevenson added 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Huskies (4-16 overall, 3-13 Pac-12).
Aljaz Kunc scored 14 points, Dishon Jackson had 13 and Noah Williams added 12 points and seven assists for the Cougars (12-10, 5-10).
It was a sluggish game as both teams were missing their point guards, who double as their leading scorers. WSU's Isaac Bonton, who is fourth in the conference with 18.4 points per game, rolled both ankles in the final minute of Saturday's 76-65 loss to No. 20 USC. The Huskies were without Quade Green (15.3 ppg) due to an illness.
The Cougars pulled within a point, 59-58, on Kunc's 3-pointer with 1:25 left before the teams started trading free throws.
Williams' driving layup tied the score at 63-all with 10 seconds left before Tsohonis drove into the lane and pulled up for an 8-foot jumper to win it.
The absence of Bonton and Green was felt early, as the Huskies lead 2-0 after the opening four minutes.
The Cougars didn't make a field goal for the opening 5:58, missing their first seven field-goal attempts and committing five turnovers in that span.
Washington closed the first half with a 16-5 run for a 36-26 advantage at the intermission. Tsohonis scored 16 in the half.
The Huskies led by as many as 14 points in the second half before an 8:12 scoring drought, with 14 consecutive missed field goals, helped WSU take a 45-43 lead on Kunc's baseline jumper with 8:54 remaining.
Tsohonis made a 3-pointer on Washington's next possession as the Huskies regained the lead, and they never trailed again.
