Colorado guard Josh Fortune and forward Josh Scott paced a balanced attack, and the Buffaloes held off Arizona State 79-69 Saturday in Boulder, Colorado.
Fortune finished with 17 points off the bench, and Scott added 15 points for the Buffaloes (21-9, 10-7 Pac-12).
Arizona State guard Tra Holder had 16 points, and forward Eric Jacobsen had 14 points for the Sun Devils (14-15, 4-12).
Colorado led by as many as 14 early in the first half, but Arizona State made a run. Guard Gerry Blakes hit a 3-pointer that gave the Sun Devils a 32-31 lead with 2:49 left. Colorado responded with a 3-pointer from Fortune, and the Buffaloes went into halftime with a 38-35 lead.
Arizona State hung tough and was down 68-63 with five minutes to play. But Colorado guard George King hit a big 3-pointer, and Scott had a late basket to help the Buffaloes survive the Sun Devils' upset bid. Forward Tre'Shaun Fletcher finished with the 13 points off the bench.
The Buffaloes were coming off a big win over No. 9 Arizona, which might have secured them an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament. They'll end the regular season Saturday at No. 22 Utah.
