Tulsa 75, USF 58: James Woodard scored a game-high 21 points and the Golden Hurricane walloped the Bulls on the road to remain the lone undefeated team in American Athletic Conference play.
Woodard finished 5-of-7 from 3-point range for Tulsa (12-5, 5-0 AAC) which defeated defending national champion Connecticut earlier in the week. Shaquille Harrison recorded 14 points, Marquel Curtis had 13 and D'Andre Wright added a dozen as the Golden Hurricane won their seventh straight game.
Nehemias Morillo led South Florida (7-11, 1-4) with 15 points off the bench but Ruben Guerrero was the only Bull starter to reach double figures with 11. Reserve Jaleel Cousins had nine points for the Bulls, who have lost three straight.
Wright rebounded a missed shot and slammed it down just before the first-half buzzer to give Tulsa a 32-27 lead at the break. The Bulls led 15-8 in the early going and shot 55 percent from the field in the first half but went cold after intermission to shoot 42 percent for the game.
Woodard, the only player in the history of the program to lead the team in scoring and rebounding as a freshman and a sophomore, knocked down three 3-pointers early in the second half and capped a 10-1 run with another triple to give Tulsa 60-44 lead with 9:18 left. The Bulls trailed by double figures for the remainder of the game as leading scorer Corey Allen Jr. was held to just two points.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tulsa has won 16 straight league games dating back to last season when it won its final 11 – including three conference tournament games – on the way to the Conference USA title. ...Saturday was the first meeting ever between the two schools. ...
