No. 11 Cincinnati 73, Houston 62: Sean Kilpatrick had 28 points and six assists as the Bearcats staved off the upset bid by the visiting Cougars in American Athletic Conference play.
Justin Jackson scored all 13 of his points in the second half for Cincinnati (23-3, 12-1), which is 17-0 at home this season and has won 19 straight dating back to last season. Shaquille Thomas added 11 points as the Bearcats defeated Houston for the 12th straight time.
Danrad Knowles scored 11 points for the Cougars (12-13, 4-8), who lost for the sixth time in seven games. Danuel House, L.J. Rose and TaShawn Thomas added 10 points apiece for Houston.
Jackson’s dunk with 5:13 remaining was part of a 12-1 run that saw Cincinnati take a 67-58 lead. Ge’Lawn Guyn capped the run with back-to-back 3-pointers and the Bearcats remained in control.
Cincinnati led 29-28 at halftime and the lead switched hands repeatedly through most of the second half. A three-point play by Thomas gave the Cougars a 57-55 lead with 6:41 to play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson blocked two shots to become the fourth player in Bearcats history to reach 200 for a career. … Houston’s only win over Cincinnati in 25 meetings came on Feb. 2, 1973. … Kilpatrick has scored 20 or more points in five of the last six games and 14 times overall this season.
