No. 15 Oklahoma State 74, Baylor 72: Phil Forte made two free throws with 2.9 seconds left and the Cowboys withstood a furious rally by the Bears in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City.
Marcus Smart scored 21 points and Le'Bryan Nash added 14 for third-seeded Oklahoma State (24-7), which led by as many as 20 in the first half and advanced to face No. 2 seed Kansas State in Friday’s semifinals. The Cowboys split two games against the Wildcats this season.
Baylor’s Gary Franklin converted a four-point play with 19 seconds left and tied the game at 72 before Forte was fouled on the Cowboys’ next possession. Oklahoma State escaped with the win after Pierre Jackson missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Jackson scored 24 of his 31 points in the second half and made a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 68-67 with 39 seconds left. Rico Gathers added eight points and 12 rebounds for the sixth-seeded Bears (18-14), who remained on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
Nash scored 13 of his 14 points after halftime and was the only Oklahoma State player to make a field goal in the second half, when the Cowboys were outscored 48-32. Cory Jefferson added 10 points and 10 boards for the sixth-seeded Bears, who lost five of six before stunning Kansas 81-58 on Saturday.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Baylor fell to 1-8 in games decided by five or fewer points. … Oklahoma State has won at least one Big 12 tournament game in 10 consecutive seasons. … Baylor shot 36.7 percent and missed 18 of its 23 shots from 3-point range.
