Georgia 59, Texas A&M 52: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 22 points and nine rebounds and the visiting Bulldogs withstood a furious rally to send the Aggies to their fourth straight loss.
Georgia (8-11, 2-4 SEC) led 48-31 with 10:20 left before Elston Turner (19 points) and Fabyon Harris (13) woke up lethargic Texas A&M (12-7, 2-4). The Aggies cut the deficit to four, but Caldwell-Pope’s 3-pointer with 2:10 remaining enabled the Bulldogs to win the first-ever meeting.
Georgia led 27-23 after a half in which it outrebounded the Aggies 14-8.
Sherrard Brantley scored eight points and Nemanja Djurisic seven for Georgia, which has won two of three after a three-game skid.
The Aggies shot 34.7 percent (17-of-49) from the field and 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the foul line.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Aggies failed again to record the program’s 1,300th all-time win. A&M is 1,299-1,184 in 101 seasons. … Caldwell-Pope led Georgia in scoring for the 17th time this season and is the only Bulldog to have started every game. … This was Georgia’s fifth game ever in the state of Texas, the previous four coming against the Texas Longhorns.
