Anthony Jones recorded his third career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 12 Baylor used a strong second half to blow past visiting Texas Southern 77-57 on Friday.
Freshman Quincy Miller, one of the nation’s highest-rated recruits and a projected NBA lottery pick, added 17 points in his first career game, 12 of which came in Baylor’s dominant second half.
The Bears led only 37-30 at the break but went on a 21-7 run midway through the second half to take a 65-42 lead on Pierre Jackson’s layup with 7:56 left.
The 12 rebounds were a career high for Jones, one of Baylor’s many talented inside players. The Bears have five players listed at 6 feet 9 or taller, and they used that length to dominate the Tigers on the glass with a 43-26 rebounding advantage.
Omar Strong scored 14 points to lead Texas Southern, which shot only 37.7 percent and had 18 turnovers.
Baylor sophomore Perry Jones III sat out the first of a five-game suspension for accepting improper benefits before he got to the school.
