ANAHEIM – Arizona missed two potential game-winning 3-pointers as Connecticut held on for a 65-63 victory in the West Regional final Saturday.
Derrick Williams and Jamelle Horne each got good looks in the final 10 seconds, but the shots didn’t fall and the Huskies (30-9) reached their fourth Final Four.
Kemba Walker led No. 3 seed UConn with 20 points and seven assists, and freshman Jeremy Lamb scored 19. Williams had 20 points and five rebounds for No. 5 seed Arizona (30-8) despite playing just 26 minutes due to foul trouble.
Walker, who shot just 7 of 17, sparked a late 10-0 UConn run by hitting a jumper and feeding Lamb for a jumper. Lamb hit two baseline jumpers and capped the surge with a steal and dunk to make it 62-55 with 3:11 left. But the Wildcats rallied thanks to 3-pointers by Kyle Fogg and Horne.
UConn’s national championships, in 1999 and 2004, also came with the Huskies advancing out of the West Regional.
The Huskies will play the North Carolina-Kentucky winner on Saturday in Houston.
