Zack Novak scored 19 points, including six 3-pointers, to help visiting Michigan hold on for a surprising 61-57 victory over slumping Michigan State on Thursday.

Darius Morris added 17 points and eight assists for the Wolverines (12-9, 2-6 Big Ten).

Kalin Lucas finished with a game-high 27 points for the Spartans (12-8, 4-4), which fell out of the national rankings for the first time this season earlier this week.

Novak hit three straight 3-pointers midway through the first half to put the Wolverines on top for good 20-16. Novak finished with 13 points in the first half as Michigan took a 33-27 advantage into the intermission.

The margin grew to 14 points after the Wolverines opened the second half with an 8-0 run.

Michigan State put together a late rally and closed to within two 57-55 on a three-point play by Lucas with 1:47 remaining, but Michigan's Stu Douglass hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left to ice it.
