Ha-Seong Kim broke up a scoreless tie with a two-strike, two-run single through a drawn-in infield with one out in the eighth and Fernando Tatis Jr. followed with a two-run home run Friday night as the San Diego Padres defeated the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0.

The Padres' winning rally came off Arizona reliever Miguel Castro (5-6) after Diamondbacks rookie starter Brandon Pfaadt held the Padres hitless for 6 1/3 innings before Juan Soto ended the no-hit bid with a line-drive double.

Pfaadt, who is still winless in 12 major league starts, held the Padres scoreless on one hit through seven innings. He issued three walks and struck out five. He retired 11 straight Padres after Kim reached first to open the game on an error by shortstop Geraldo Parra.

Sanchez reached first to open the eighth when he was hit by the first pitch Castro threw. With pinch runner Jose Azocar on first, pinch hitter Ben Gamel dropped a bunt up the first base line and reached first when Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker fumbled the ball. Trent Grisham then advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt to third.

Castro got two quick strikes against Kim on sliders. However, the right-hander hung an 0-2 slider and Kim hit a grounder to the left of the diving Perdomo, scoring both Azocar and Gamel. Castro jumped ahead of Tatis with a slider before the Padre drove the next slider 419 feet to center for his 20th homer of the season.

Pfaadt and Padres starter Seth Lugo engaged in a scoreless pitching duel through six innings.

Lugo gave up five hits and three walks in his six innings, logging a career-high-tying nine strikeouts. The Diamondbacks got the first two batters on base on in both the fourth and the fifth innings, but Lugo worked his way out of both jams -- the second threat thwarted when Gabriel Moreno was out trying to come home on a double-steal attempt.

Robert Suarez (2-2) was credited with the win after pitching a perfect eighth.
