Pete Alonso slugged his 100th career homer and added one more long ball as the New York Mets defeated the host Miami Marlins 9-4 on Tuesday night.

Alonso was playing in his 347th game. Only Ryan Howard (325 games) reached 100 homers faster than Alonso, who also hit No. 1 in Miami on April 1, 2019.

Alonso, who has 32 homers this year, finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Mets center field Kevin Pillar made two stellar catches on a night when each team was charged with three errors.

The Marlins rested shortstop Miguel Rojas, and his replacement, Jazz Chisholm Jr., moved over from second base and committed two errors.

Carlos Carrasco (1-2) earned his first win as a member of the Mets, allowing four runs but just one earned in five innings. He gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out four.

Marlins rookie starter Edward Cabrera escaped with a no-decision. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit but four runs due to four walks and two hit batters. He fanned one.

Miami reliever Paul Campbell (1-3) took a tough loss, allowing two unearned runs in 2 1/3 innings.

New York opened the scoring in the first as Jonathan Villar drew a walk and Alonso delivered a 425-foot homer. The exit velocity was 106 mph.

Miami cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the first on Jesus Sanchez's RBI single. However, Carrasco got out of a bases-loaded jam by getting Isan Diaz to ground into the shift in shallow right field. Diaz ended the night in an 0-for-29 drought after going 0-for-3.

The Marlins tied the score in the second. Eddy Alvarez reached on a fielding error by shortstop Francisco Lindor, and Cabrera then slugged an RBI double down the left field line, his first major league hit.

Cabrera fell apart in the third, issuing three consecutive one-out walks followed by RBI hit-by-pitches for Michael Conforto (right foot) and Javier Baez (right hand).

Miami tied the score 4-4 in the bottom of the frame as a throwing error by third baseman Villar led to Diaz's sacrifice fly and Alvarez's RBI double.

In the sixth, the Mets took a 7-4 lead -- aided by a throwing miscue by first baseman Joe Panik and a fielding error by Chisholm on what might have been an inning-ending double play. A two-run single by Lindor capped the rally.

New York concluded its scoring with J.D. Davis' pinch-hit RBI double in the eighth and Alonso's solo homer in the ninth.
