Jarred Kelenic hit a two-run homer and singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 on Friday night in Phoenix.

Mitch Haniger also socked a two-run home run for the Mariners (73-62), won their third straight game and remained four games back in the chase for the American League's second and final wild-card berth.

Left-hander Justus Sheffield (7-8) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second victory in as many relief appearances since returning from the injured list after recovering from a left forearm strain.

Right-hander Yohan Ramirez worked the bottom of the 10th for his second save as the Mariners improved to 13-5 in extra innings this season.

The Diamondbacks (45-91), who have the worst record in the National League, fell for the sixth time in seven games. Right-hander Taylor Clarke (1-2) took the loss.

After a leadoff walk to J.P. Crawford in the fifth inning, Haniger hit a two-run shot down the left field line to break a 1-1 tie. It was Haniger's 30th home run of the season.

Kelenic went deep after Tom Murphy walked to lead off the sixth. The homer, to straightaway center field, was the eighth of Kelenic's rookie campaign and made it 5-1.

Both of the homers came off Madison Bumgarner. The left-hander went six innings and allowed five runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

The Diamondbacks tied the score with a four-run seventh.

Christian Walker led off with a double off starter Tyler Anderson and scored on a ground-rule double down the left field line by Andrew Young.

Josh Rojas greeted left-hander Sean Doolittle with a single up the middle to score Young. After a flyout, Rojas moved to second on a wild pitch and Stuart Fairchild was hit by a pitch.

Pinch hitter Pavin Smith grounded out to advance the runners before the Mariners brought in Paul Sewald. Nick Ahmed greeted the right-hander with a two-run single to left, evening the score.

Anderson went six-plus innings and allowed three runs on four hits. The left-hander walked one and struck out five.
