Jordan Yamamoto allowed the first runs of his career but still continued making franchise history by winning his third start in as many tries for the Miami Marlins, who cruised past the host Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 on Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep.
The Marlins, who have the worst record in the National League at 30-46, completed their third series sweep of the season. The Phillies, who have dropped seven straight, were swept for the third time.
Yamamoto (3-0), who opened his career by throwing seven scoreless innings in back-to-back starts against the St. Louis Cardinals, saw his shutout streak end in the first inning Sunday. He walked the first three batters before Jean Segura gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead with a two-run, one-out single.
The 23-year-old Yamamoto settled down and allowed just one more hit -- a leadoff single in the fourth by Cesar Hernandez -- and one more walk over his five innings, during which he struck out seven.
Yamamoto, one of the players acquired in the trade that sent Christian Yelich to the Milwaukee Brewers in January 2018, is the first Miami pitcher to ever win his first three big league starts.
J.T. Riddle gave the Marlins the lead for good with a two-run homer in the second. Miami went ahead 4-2 on Brian Anderson's run-scoring double play in the third and added insurance runs in the fifth, when Garrett Cooper and Anderson hit back-to-back solo homers.
Cooper and Starlin Castro had three hits apiece.
Three Marlins relievers combined to finish the four-hitter. Nick Anderson earned his first career save despite giving up a run in the ninth, when Hernandez led off with a double and scored on Sean Rodriguez's pinch-hit sacrifice fly.
Jay Bruce lofted a sacrifice fly in the eighth for the Phillies.
Rookie Enyel De Los Santos (0-1) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over four innings.
