Jacob deGrom pitched seven effective innings while rookie Pete Alonso and Michael Conforto hit back-to-back solo homers in the sixth inning as the New York Mets beat the visiting Miami Marlins 4-1 on Saturday night.
The Mets won their second straight in a stretch of 16 straight games against sub-.500 opponents. The Mets also won consecutive games for the first time since April 22-23 and improved to 5-0 this season against Miami.
DeGrom (3-4) held the Marlins to one run on five hits. He struck out eight, walked one and threw 78 of 106 pitches for strikes to win his first start since winning at Miami on April 3 when he homered and struck out a career-high 14 hitters.
DeGrom retired 11 of the final 13 hitters he faced and ended his outing by retiring former Mets teammate Curtis Granderson on a groundout.
The right-hander allowed one run or fewer for the 68th time in 147 career starts since making his major league debut in May 2014. He also allowed two runs or less for the third straight start after getting tagged for 14 runs in a three-start stretch from April 9-26.
The Mets fell behind in the third but tied the game in the fourth on Conforto's RBI single. Alonso snapped the tie in the sixth with his 12th homer by driving Sandy Alcantara's 2-1 slider over the right-center field fence.
Four pitches later, Conforto made it 3-1 by hammering a 1-2 fastball over the right-center field fence for his eighth homer. It was the second time the Mets hit back-to-back homers this season.
After the homers, the Mets added their fourth run on deGrom's RBI single that scored Brandon Nimmo and knocked out Alcantara.
Seth Lugo pitched a perfect eighth, and Edwin Diaz put two on in the ninth and notched his 10th save in as many opportunities.
Alcantara (1-4) allowed four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out one, walked two and lost his fourth straight decision.
Alcantara also had an RBI double in the third as the Marlins lost their fifth straight game. Miami also lost its seventh straight game against the Mets dating to Sept. 29.
