James Shields earned his first win since Opening Day, and Yoan Moncada and Yolmer Sanchez hit back-to-back homers to start the first inning as the Chicago White Sox beat the visiting Cleveland Indians 5-1 on Tuesday night.

The White Sox have alternated wins with losses over the past seven games. The Indians lost for the second time in seven games.

Shields (2-7) allowed one run on four hits and no walks while striking out two over seven innings. It was just the second time in 14 starts this season he lasted at least seven innings while allowing no more than one run. Shields was 0-7 with a 4.83 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) since earned the win against the Kansas City Royals on Opening Day.

Moncada and Sanchez provided Shields all the support he'd need by homering on consecutive pitches against Indians rookie Adam Plutko (3-1). Matt Davidson extended the lead to 3-0 with a one-out RBI double in the first.

Davidson and Omar Narvaez chased Plutko in the fifth when they delivered run-scoring doubles on back-to-back pitches. Davidson and Narvaez were the lone White Sox players with multiple hits.

The Indians had just one hit through five innings before building their lone rally in the sixth. Francisco Lindor doubled with one out, went to third on an infield single by Michael Brantley and scored on Jose Ramirez's sacrifice fly.

The Indians stirred in the ninth. Ramirez hit a leadoff double against Nate Jones, and Yonder Alonso drew a one-out walk. Chicago reliever Xavier Cedeno struck out Jason Kipnis before Joakim Soria earned his ninth save by inducing Yan Gomes to fly out.

Lindor had a pair of doubles.

Plutko, who was recalled from Triple-A Columbus earlier in the day, gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five over 4 2/3 innings.

Cleveland's Zach McAllister, Tyler Olson and Josh Tomlin combined for 3 1/3 innings of no-hit relief.
