Pirates 5, Brewers 2: Pedro Alvarez belted a pair of home runs and Jeff Locke tossed six scoreless innings as visiting Pittsburgh evened the series at one game apiece.
Andrew McCutchen and Neil Walker connected on solo shots and Locke (5-1) permitted only three hits to win his fifth straight decision as the Pirates improved to 12-3 in their last 15 games.
Carlos Gomez hit a pair of solo homers in the seventh to provide the only offense for Milwaukee, which lost for the 17th time in its past 22 games. Mike Fiers (1-3), making his second start of the season in place of Kyle Lohse (elbow), allowed four runs on five hits and all three homers.
McCutchen lined a shot into the seats in the top of the first inning for his fourth homer in 10 career at-bats against Fiers. Alvarez followed a single by Walker with another blast in the second for a 3-0 lead before Walker went deep in the fourth.
Locke made the lead stand up by extending his scoreless streak to 14 innings, marking the fourth time in seven outings that he has not allowed a run. Alvavez homered again in the ninth for a 5-1 edge.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Brewers placed closer Jim Henderson on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, one day after he suffered a strained right hamstring. Manager Ron Roenicke said he will employ a closer-by-committee in the absence of Henderson, who is 9-for-9 in save chances. ... Pittsburgh RHP James McDonald (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday and is scheduled to make a rehab start Monday, but RHP Jeff Karstens was shut down after feeling pain in his shoulder Friday. ... Milwaukee fell to 1-20 when scoring three runs or fewer while the Pirates improved to 9-47 since 2007 at Miller Park.
