The Indians took a 4-2 lead in the second when Ryan Raburn hit a three-run blast with two outs and Gomes followed immediately with a solo homer. Morales’ run-scoring single helped tie the game at 4 in the third and the Mariners came back two more times to tie, including Seager’s solo homer in the eighth to draw even at 6-6.
Seattle took a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth on a pinch-hit solo homer by Chavez, his first of the season, off Chris Perez. Mariners’ closer Tom Wilhelmsen gave up two hits in the ninth and dropped Smoak’s toss at first base with two outs for an error to blow his first save in 12 opportunities.
