Adrian Gonzalez smashed a grand slam in a six-run fourth inning in leading the San Diego Padres to a 10-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.

Tony Gwynn Jr. hit his first home run of the year and Matt Stairs and Everth Cabrera drove in two runs apiece for the Padres, who have won seven consecutive games to maintain their hold on first place in the National League West.

San Diego struck early against Bronson Arroyo (0-2), who was moved up a day to start in place of Johnny Cueto.

Stairs started the scoring with a two-run double in the second and Gwynn followed two batters later with a two-run home run to right for the 4-0 lead.

Cabrera chased Arroyo with a two-run single in the fourth. Gonzalez added his grand slam -- his fourth home run of the season and the second grand slam of his career -- later in the inning against reliever Micah Owings, staking starter Kevin Correia to a 10-0 lead.

That was plenty of support for Correia (3-1), who allowed only one hit until the Reds dinged him for two runs in the sixth. Correia went 5 2/3 innings, surrendering two runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Orlando Cabrera drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Brandon Phillips and Ryan Hanigan added RBI singles and Paul Janish had an RBI double for the Reds, who have lost seven of their last nine.
