Luke French outdueled Fausto Carmona and Franklin Gutierrez hit an RBI single in the first inning as the Seattle Mariners earned a 1-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.

French (4-4) allowed one hit in seven innings with four strikeouts and three walks to earn the win. Brandon League pitched a scoreless eighth and David Aardsma earned his 27th save despite surrendering two hits and a walk in the ninth.

Carmona was nearly as dominant for the Indians, working eight innings and allowing four hits with six strikeouts and five walks.

Ichiro Suzuki singled to lead off the bottom of the first for Seattle. Chone Figgins walked and Gutierrez followed with a single to center to score Suzuki for the game's only run.
