Sharks 4, Oilers 3: Matt Tennyson knotted the contest 8 1/2 minutes into the third period with his first career goal and fellow rookie Barclay Goodrow netted his second NHL tally 34 seconds later as San Jose extended its home winning streak to seven games.

James Sheppard and Logan Couture also scored while Goodrow added an assist for the Sharks, who improved to 5-0-0 on their six-game homestand. Rookie Melker Karlsson set up a pair of goals and Antti Niemi made 25 saves as San Jose won for the eight time in nine contests overall.

Boyd Gordon scored in his return from a five-game absence due to a sore back while Steven Pinizzotto and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also tallied for the reeling Oilers, who have lost six in a row and 17 of their last 18. David Perron notched two assists and Ben Scrivens turned aside 26 shots as Edmonton fell to 0-1-1 under interim coach Todd Nelson.

Edmonton opened the scoring with 5:17 remaining in the first period, when Gordon slid a backhander under Niemi's left pad from the right faceoff circle. San Jose grabbed the lead in quick fashion early in the second as Sheppard converted a feed from behind the net by Goodrow at 5:51 and Couture found the top left corner of the net from the right circle 1:45 afterward.

The Oilers answered quickly, with Pinizzotto scoring off a scramble in front 47 seconds after Couture's tally and Nugent-Hopkins knocking in a rebound in the crease 1:36 later for a 3-2 edge. Tennyson forged a tie during a power play 8:29 into the third with a shot from the right circle and Goodrow put the Sharks ahead by beating Scrivens on a breakaway while fighting off defenseman Justin Schultz.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Goodrow also scored his first career goal at home against Edmonton on Dec. 9. ... The Oilers scored more than two goals for the first time in nine games this month. ... Nugent-Hopkins' tally was his ninth of the season, moving him ahead of LW Taylor Hall for the team lead.
