Dereon Seabron sank the final go-ahead free throws with two seconds remaining Saturday as NC State edged Colgate 77-74 in Raleigh, N.C.

After Tucker Richardson drilled a 3-pointer for Colgate with 11 seconds remaining to tie the game at 74, NC State put the ball in the hands of Seabron, who was fouled and converted the free throws.

They were the eighth and ninth consecutive made free throws by the Wolfpack down the stretch, enabling NC State to hold Colgate at bay.

Then when Colgate lost the ball with less than a second remaining on the clock, NC State's Evenezer Dowuona was fouled and added to the margin by sinking one of two free throws for the Wolfpack.

Casey Morsell scored 22 points and Seabron had 21 points to lead NC State (2-0).

Nelly Cummings scored 19 points for Colgate (1-1) while Jeff Woodward had 14 and Jack Ferguson 13.

N.C. State got off to a good start, taking a 14-4 lead just over five minutes into the game before Colgate started to chip away at its deficit.

Colgate cut the N.C. State lead to 27-24 with 8:27 left in the first half before the Wolfpack answered with a 9-2 run to take a 36-26 lead with 5:27 left until halftime.

Colgate again responded, ending the first half by outscoring the Wolfpack, 11-2, to pull to within one at halftime, 38-37.

The game remained close throughout, but N.C. State looked like it might be taking control when it went on a 6-0 run to take a 68-64 lead with 3:56 remaining.

Yet, Colgate responded with a 3-pointer by Ferguson and two free throws by Woodward for a 69-68 lead within the next minute.

NC State jumped back on top, 70-69, on two free throws by Terquavion Smith, but Colgate regained the lead at 71-70 with 2:21 left on a layup by Woodard.

The Wolfpack finally gained the advantage for good when Seabron scored with 1:21 remaining and extended that lead to 74-71 with 23 seconds left on two free throws by Morsell.
