Johnny Davis scored a game-high 27 points and Tyler Wahl posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 8 Wisconsin stretch its winning streak to seven games with an 82-76 victory against Northwestern on Tuesday night in Evanston, Ill.
A welcome reversal of fortune from 3-point range boosted the Badgers (15-2, 6-1 Big Ten). Entering the night with a 30.3 percent team shooting percentage from distance, Wisconsin swished six successive treys during one sequence en route to a 9-for-17 (52.9 percent) night.
Chucky Hepburn (14 points), Brad Davison (13) and Steven Crowl (10) also finished in double figures for the Badgers, who shot 51.9 percent while outrebounding the Wildcats 36-35.
The Badgers led by as many as 10 early in the second half and again with 1:25 left before withstanding a late rally from Northwestern (9-7, 2-5). The Wildcats drew to within four points with 48 seconds to play on treys from Chase Audige and Boo Buie. Wisconsin left the door open with five straight missed free throws down the stretch but recovered to make two of its final three from the line.
Audige paced the Wildcats with 23 points, while Boo Buie (19) and Ryan Young (13) followed.
Pete Nance, the Wildcats' leading scorer at 17.1 points per game, contributed 10 points, six rebounds and five assists, returning to the lineup after sustaining an ankle injury during Wednesday's double-overtime loss to Maryland.
Northwestern shot 46.5 percent. The Badgers went 17 of 26 from the free-throw line compared to 3 of 8 for the Wildcats, whose five conference losses have come by a combined 31 points.
Wisconsin took a 41-35 lead into the break, securing a bit of extra breathing room when Hepburn drilled a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from two steps inside midcourt. Audige had scored on a drive moments earlier, helping Northwestern trim the deficit to three after trailing by seven points with 1:48 to go before halftime.
Davis added eight rebounds to go with his 10th game of at least 20 points this season.
Wisconsin has won seven straight in the series and improved to 122-65 against Northwestern all-time.
