Guard Malik Beasley scored 22 points, and Florida State held off a last-minute threat to defeat North Carolina State 85-78 Wednesday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
Guard Devon Bookert added 18 points and guard Dwayne Bacon had 15 points for the Seminoles (11-5, 1-3 Atlantic Coast Conference).
N.C. State guard Maverick Rowan tallied 22 points, and sophomore forward Abdul-Malik Abu scored a career-high 21 points. Guard Anthony Barber, the ACC scoring leader, was limited to six second-half points, and he finished with 16.
With less than three minutes to play, the Wolfpack (10-7, 0-4) was within 70-64.
Bacon had two baskets in a 31-second span to help the Seminoles combat N.C. State's comeback. Rowan hit consecutive 3-pointers for N.C. State in a seven-second period as the Wolfpack closed within 79-76.
Guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes, who ended up with 11 points, and Beasley each hit two free throws.
Florida State shot 51.7 percent from the field in the first half for a 38-28 halftime lead. N.C. State shot 33.3 percent (10 of 30) in the opening half.
The visitors wound up outshooting the home team 50 percent to 37.5 percent.
The Seminoles pulled away from a 22-22 tie as N.C. State failed to score in the last four minutes of the first half.
N.C. State and Boston College are the lone ACC teams without a conference victory.
