Kansas State 85, North Dakota 52: Angel Rodriguez and Thomas Gipson scored 13 points apiece as the Wildcats opened the Bruce Weber era with an easy victory.

Martavious Irving added 11 points and Will Spralding scored 10 for Kansas State, which brought in Weber over the summer after Frank Martin left to become the head coach at South Carolina.

The Wildcats let North Dakota hang within 10 points until the 16:06 mark in the second half, when Spralding’s transition layup made it a 46-34 lead and sparked a 30-11 run over the next 12 minutes. Irving hit a pair of 3-pointers and Gipson scored five points during the run.

Troy Huff scored 12 points and was the only player to reach double figures for North Dakota, which shot 30.2 percent from the floor, including 2-for-18 from 3-point range.

Kansas State struggled to 35.3 percent shooting in the first half but still managed to take a 36-27 lead into the locker room thanks to 22 points from its bench.

GAME NOTEBOOK: North Dakota, which is in its first season as a full-time member of Division I, will play without a nickname after the school decided to do away with the “Fighting Sioux.” … Weber was let go from Illinois after last season. He guided the Fighting Illini to the national championship game in 2005, but missed the NCAA Tournament last spring. … The Wildcats bench scored 45 points in total.
