SEATTLE -- After a game loaded with home runs and a big day from Jean Segura's bat, the Seattle Mariners sealed a comeback victory against the Oakland Athletics with Segura's fast feet.

Segura dashed home with the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the Mariners to a 7-6 victory over the Athletics on Saturday, a game in which Seattle once trailed by four runs.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Athletics right-hander Blake Treinen threw a slider in the dirt that got between the legs of catcher Bruce Maxwell. The speedy Segura never hesitated on this opportunity, which came one pitch after another pitch in the dirt was covered up by Maxwell.

"I was (looking for) one in the dirt," Segura said. "The first one, I almost went with, but it was too close. The second one went between his legs and was a good chance to score."

The Mariners loaded the bases as Segura reached on an error, Yonder Alonso singled and Robinson Cano was intentionally walked.

Still, Treinen almost got out of it. He struck out Nelson Cruz and got Kyle Seager to fly out to shallow left. But his slider got away from Maxwell, and the game got away from Oakland.

"He gets himself a position to get out of it, (then) we don't handle the ball behind the plate," Athletics manager Bob Melvin said, "and it costs us the game."

The Mariners (68-68) won their second straight over the A's in the series and kept pace in the American League wild-card chase to stay 3 1/2 games back.

The Athletics (58-77) suffered their fifth straight loss.

Segura went 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and two RBIs. But it was a big night for many, as the teams combined for seven homers. Seattle got a two-run shot from Cano and solo shots from Segura and Alonso, followed by Mike Zunino's tying blast in the eighth.

The Athletics got solo homers from Maxwell and Khris Davis, as well as a three-run shot by Matt Joyce in the fourth. Joyce's homer gave Oakland a 6-2 lead, leaving Seattle to chip away.

Seattle closer Edwin Diaz (3-5) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win. Treinen (1-2) picked up the loss for the Athletics after two-thirds of an inning and allowing the unearned run.

The Mariners' win was made possible by a huge relief outing by lefty Marco Gonzalez, who pitched four shutout innings allowing two hits with five strikeouts. It was his first outing of 2017 in which he didn't give up any runs.

"For him to give us those innings was huge," Zunino said "It kept us in the ballgame and gave us time to chip at that lead."

Still, the Athletics almost got through the contest behind an ensemble effort by their bullpen. Simon Castro allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings and Sam Moll, Ryan Dull and Daniel Coulombe combined to pitch 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Chris Hatcher took over in the eighth. Hatcher surrendered Zunino's equalizer, leading to the ninth.

"The bullpen really did a good job, we used a lot of guys to try to get through that game," Melvin said. "But it would behoove us to try to add on a run or two as well."

It wasn't a good night for Mariners starter Yovani Gallardo, who pitched three innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. The runs came on a pair of Oakland home runs.

It wasn't too much better for Oakland starter Jharel Cotton, who pitched four-plus innings and allowed four runs on three homers. Cotton gave up seven hits and two walks with one strikeout.

NOTES: The Mariners selected the contract of INF Gordon Beckham from Triple-A Tacoma. Beckham, who has played eight seasons in the majors for the White Sox, Angels, Braves and Giants, has hit .262 with nine homers and 45 RBIs for Tacoma in 2017. ... To make room for Beckham, the Mariners designated Shawn O'Malley for assignment. ... Rehabbing LHP James Paxton and RHPs Hisashi Iwakuma had bullpen sessions. Mariners manager said Iwakuma felt better than he had since going on the disabled list with a shoulder issue May 7. ... OF Matt Joyce got the start in center field for the Athletics, the first time he played the position since in 2009 with the Tampa Bay Rays. ... Athletics manager Bob Melvin said top prospect Franklin Barreto will start at second base on Sunday. Barreto hit .190 in an 11-game stint with Oakland earlier this season. ... Mariners 2B Robinson Cano had a call overturned by a video replay that took only 29 seconds.
