Angels 6, Mariners 1: Mark Trumbo went 4-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs as host Los Angeles snapped a two-game losing streak
Torii Hunter also homered and Garrett Richards pitched seven strong innings while picking up his first major-league victory.
Richards (1-0) struck out eight and gave up one run and four hits. The right-hander is in the rotation due to the recent back injury suffered by ace Jered Weaver.
Trumbo and Hunter got the offense going for the Angels with back-to-back homers in the second inning against Blake Beavan (3-5).
Seattle’s Michael Saunders hit a solo homer in the third inning before the Angels scored twice in the fourth on run-scoring singles by Albert Pujols and Trumbo.
Pujols doubled with one out in the fifth and scored on Trumbo’s booming two-run homer to center to make it 6-1.
Jason Isringhausen pitched a scoreless eighth and Jordan Walden worked the ninth for the Angels.
Beavan allowed six runs and 10 hits in five innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Trumbo struck out four times in Monday’s opening contest of the series. … Saunders has three or more hits in four of Seattle’s last seven games. … The Angels placed catcher Bobby Wilson on the seven-day concussion list and recalled Hank Conger from Triple-A Salt Lake. … The Mariners have scratched Felix Hernandez (back) from Wednesday’s scheduled start and replaced him with Hector Noesi.
