After J.D. Martinez tied the game in the third with an RBI single, San Diego responded by scoring twice in the fifth on RBIs by Chase Headley and Yasmani Grandal.
Alexi Amarista singled in a run in the sixth with one of his three hits, and the Padres drew clear with three more runs in the seventh. Cameron Maybin capped the inning with a two-run ground-rule double.
Marwin Gonzalez had three hits for Houston, which was aiming to win back-to-back road games for the first time since April 25-27.
