Braves 9, Rockies 8 (11): Eric Hinske capped a four-hit night with a two-run homer in the 11th inning and Freddie Freeman collected four hits, including a home run, as visiting Atlanta outlasted Colorado.
Chipper Jones added a solo homer and two RBIs for the Braves.
The Rockies brought on Edgmer Escalona (0-1) to start the 11th and the right-hander surrendered a leadoff single to Tyler Pastornicky. Hinske followed and got a 2-0 pitch up in the zone, hammering it into the Atlanta bullpen in right-center.
Chad Durbin (2-0) got credit for the win and Craig Kimbrel allowed a run in the bottom of the 11th but left the tying run on second base for his ninth save.
Colorado got to Tim Hudson for five runs in the first inning, batting around while getting RBIs from Todd Helton, Michael Cuddyer and Dexter Fowler.
Atlanta started getting back into it in the third, when Freeman reached Guillermo Moscoso for a two-run homer, his fifth of the year.
The Braves knocked Moscoso out and took the lead in the fifth. Jones started it with an RBI single before Brian McCann chased Moscoso with a two-run single. Hinske’s RBI double off Matt Reynolds gave Atlanta a 6-5 lead.
Jonathan Herrera and Jones traded solo homers in the next two frames and Tyler Colvin’s RBI fielder’s choice for Colorado knotted it at 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Rockies C Wilin Rosario made his first professional appearance at third base in the 11th and made a strong play at the hot corner, grabbing a shot down the line and firing across the infield for the out … Colorado fell to 3-4 on its current nine-game homestand … The Braves finished with 19 hits.
