Yankees 4, Rays 3: Robinson Cano drove in the go-ahead runs in the eighth and Mark Teixeira homered as visiting New York snapped a nine-game losing streak at Tropicana Field.

Alex Rodriguez recorded two hits and an RBI for the Yankees, who avoided their first road series sweep since the season-opening set in Tampa Bay.

Kyle Farnsworth (0-1) came on for the Rays in the eighth and walked four while recording one out before Jake McGee was called upon to face Cano. McGee left a 2-2 fastball over the plate with the bases loaded and Cano lined it into center, plating a pair for a 4-3 edge.

Boone Logan (3-0) got the win in relief and Rafael Soriano picked up his 19th save.

David Phelps started for New York and struggled with his command, issuing three walks and hitting a pair of batters, but limited the damage to only one run and two hits in 4 1/3 innings. The rookie right-hander struck out eight.

Phelps did not allow a hit until surrendering Sean Rodriguez’s RBI single down the right field in the fourth.

New York finally broke through against David Price in the seventh, when Teixeira led off with his 14th home run.

Price fought through the seventh and ended up finishing with one run allowed on four hits. The all-star walked a pair and struck out eight.

Tampa Bay set Price up for the win when Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, but the bullpen let him down in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rays 3B Jeff Keppinger was hit in the triceps by Phelps in the third and removed from the game. He is day-to-day. … The Yankees claimed OF Darnell McDonald off waivers. McDonald was designated for assignment by the rival Boston Red Sox on Saturday and is scheduled to make his New York debut against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday. … New York RHP Joba Chamberlain (ankle) will pitch in a simulated game on Friday.
