Pablo Sandoval returned from the disabled list to drive in a run, and Cody Ross had two RBIs and two runs scored as the San Francisco Giants built a five-run lead and held on for a 6-5 road victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Nate Schierholtz and starter Matt Cain also had RBIs for the Giants, who have won three straight on the road.
Sandoval, who was sidelined since April 29 with a fractured hamate bone in his right hand, hit San Francisco's third straight single to start the game against Arizona rookie Josh Collmenter (4-2) to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Ross scored on Cain's sacrifice bunt in the fourth before he delivered a two-run double and scored in the fifth.
Cain (6-4) extended his winning streak against Arizona to five games despite yielding five runs in 6 2/3 innings. Brian Wilson worked a scoreless ninth for his 19th save in 21 opportunities.
Collmenter surrendered five runs in five innings after he allowed four earned runs in his first six starts as Arizona fell to 1-6 against the Giants this season and 2-12 in their last 14 meetings.
Miguel Montero belted a three-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who collected five extra-base hits to raise their National League-leading total to 226. Montero has registered nine RBIs over his last four games.
