No. 4 Arizona 61, No. 15 San Diego State 59: Stanley Johnson had 18 points and nine rebounds as the Wildcats defeated the Aztecs in the championship game of the Maui Invitational.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scored 14 points off the bench for Arizona, which won the Maui title for the second time. T.J. McConnell added 11 points as the Wildcats (6-0) overcame 36.5 percent shooting.

Trey Kell and Winston Shepard scored 14 points apiece for San Diego State (5-1) and Dwayne Polee II added 11 points. Shepard’s 3-pointer with 0.9 seconds left cut the Wildcats’ lead to 61-59 and Arizona was able to run out the clock with a pass into the frontcourt.

A dunk by Hollis-Jefferson gave the Wildcats a 53-49 lead with 4:43 to play and the Aztecs went cold as Arizona extended the lead to 57-51 on four free throws by Johnson. A four-point play by Kell pushed San Diego State within two with 17.7 seconds to play but Johnson hit two free throws with 13.8 seconds left to make it 59-55.

San Diego State led by six points early in the first half and led most of the way but Arizona took a 32-31 lead into the break. The game went back-and-forth in the second half while the Wildcats taking a 50-48 lead on a 3-pointer by McConnell with 7:33 left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Aztecs struggled with 13-of-24 shooting from the free-throw line while the Wildcats were 20-of-24. … Arizona also won the Maui Invitational in 2000. … San Diego State F Angelo Chol had five points and two blocks while playing against his former school for the first time.
