Vanderbilt 74, South Carolina 64: Rod Odom and Dai-Jon Parker scored 18 points each, as the host Commodores won their regular-season finale and clinched the No. 10 seed for the Southeastern Conference tournament.
Vanderbilt (14-16, 8-10) made 23 of 28 free throws, nearly doubling the 13 foul shots attempted by the Gamecocks. Claiming the 10th seed means the Commodores avoided having to play on Wednesday in the four-team opening round of the SEC tourney.
Brenton Williams scored 17 points and Bruce Ellington added 10 for the cold-shooting Gamecocks (14-17, 4-14). South Carolina was 23-of-64 from the floor and made only eight field goals in the first half.
The Gamecocks endured a prolonged first-half shooting drought, making one field goal over a span of 9:20 and trailing 36-25 at half. Vanderbilt went cold in the second half, making three field goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half, but South Carolina never tied or regained the lead.
Kedren Johnson, Vanderbilt's leading scorer, went 1-for-8 from the field but led the Commodores at the line with 10 made free throws to finish with 12 points.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Michael Carrera grabbed 13 rebounds for South Carolina. He missed all nine of his field-goal tries, however. ... Vanderbilt was 7-of-19 from 3-point range, extending its streak to 862 straight games with at least one made 3-pointer. ... Vanderbilt beat South Carolina for the fifth straight time.
