Purdue 66, Ball State 56: A.J. Hammons scored 15 points to lead four players in double figures as the Boilermakers snapped a two-game losing streak while holding off the visiting Cardinals.
Trailing 47-45 with 8:37 remaining, Purdue (5-6) used a 13-2 run to assume a 58-49 lead with 3:53 left as the Boilermakers knocked off Ball State (5-5) for the seventh straight time in West Lafayette. Terone Johnson, who tallied 14 for Purdue, scored five in the decisive run while Hammons had four.
D.J. Byrd and Ronnie Johnson, Terone's younger brother, each scored 11 while Jacob Lawson added six points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
Ball State took its first lead of the second half at 45-43 with 9:29 left on a 3-pointer by Lafayette native Jesse Berry, but the Cardinals could not hold on as they saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Berry led Ball State with a game-high 22 points, including 4 three-pointers and Marcus Posley added 12.
NOTEBOOK: Purdue freshman Rapheal Davis, who scored 21 points in the second half last Saturday in a loss to No. 22 Notre Dame, did not score. ... Hammons' added three blocks. ...
