James Bell sank two 3-pointers in overtime after the Wildcats had rallied from an eight-point deficit with 1:15 remaining in regulation and Villanova won the 2K Sports Classic semifinal game at Madison Square Garden.

Darrun Hilliard, a sophomore guard for Villanova (3-0), scored a career-high 22 points, freshman point guard Ryan Arcidiacono had 18 points and five assists and Bell had 15 points and nine rebounds.

D.J. Byrd scored 16 points to lead the Boilermakers (1-2). Terone Johnson added 13 and his younger brother Ronnie Johnson had 12.

Byrd had eight points and two assists in a 14-4 run that brought Purdue back from a 10-point deficit and tied the score with 12:40 remaining in the game. The Boilermakers then went on a 10-0 run minutes later to go up by nine with 7:30 remaining.

Villanova will play Alabama in Friday's championship game while Purdue will meet Oregon State in the third-place game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After missing five consecutive free throws late in regulation, Villanova made 17 straight to end the game. … Purdue, the worst free-throw shooting team in the Big Ten last season, started the game 2-for-8 from the line before finishing 16-for-28. … Villanova’s top returning scorer from last season, 6-10 center Mouphtaou Yarou, went scoreless until converting a three-point play with 14:42 remaining. He finished with four points.
